New Pro Tools HD products from AVID including Pro Tools HD I/O, HD OMNI and HD MADI interfaces. Some good improvements have been made such as the digital audio conversion quality as well as improvements in filtering and clocking. AVID also added a soft knee analog limiter in the HD OMNI and HD I/O which will enable us to get hotter signal without clipping and make recording all that much easier.
Another really cool thing they are releasing is a HD software add on called HEAT, or Harmonically Enhanced Algorithm Technology. Which gives you the amazing qualities of vintage analog gear and consoles we all want to use in our mixes but most can’t afford. Avid brought in Crane Song’s David Hill to help develop this add-on. Crane Song makes the Phoenix plug in which emulates the properties of an analog tape machine. This software add on sounds really cool and I can’t wait to try it out!
Sounds like Avid is doing some good things with the new HD products, now we just have to hear how it sounds.
